Providing independence through drivers assessment and training

Jason Strowmatt, CDRS

Jason started in Driver Rehabilitation at a young age in Houston, Texas where he worked as an office manager for a very small Driver Rehab facility. As that facility grew Jason realized that he had a desire to help people with both physical and mental disabilities regain their independence. He was always proud of the work he did to assist in helping others but didn’t like the lack of hands on time he had with his client’s. Soon after getting his Texas Education Agency license to teach Driver’s education he began an apprenticeship learning program with some of the best Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialists in the country. Jason was always asking questions and working hard to learn as much as he could along the way about the people he was helping. During this time Jason began working on his college degree in business, and began focusing more and more on the day to day operations of a private practice adaptive driving program. Jason received his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2007 but still loved the feeling he got from helping others regain their independence. In 2011 Jason became a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist, one of only a small group of CDRS’s without a degree in a medical field. Over the past 15 years Jason has been fortunate enough to work with clients in all aspects of the adaptive driving world, including everything from the most basic driver with no equipment all the way up to high tech vehicle modification evaluations and trainings including low vision driver’s utilizing Bi-optic telescopes. Most recently Jason has continued his education in the adaptive driving field and regularly participates as a member in both the ADED conferences and NMEDA conferences every year always striving to learn and grow as a specialist in adaptive driving.
