How We Got Started

With 15 years of experience in acute care and rehabilitation based Occupational Therapy, Jenny Nordine had a strong desire to develop a driving program to provide the ultimate level of independence.  This passion was developed into Driving To Independence in 2000.  Jenny is able to assist our client’s with independence in the community to allow them to maintain or return to employment or school, care for their families, socialize or independently participate in their communities.

Jenny began working in neuro rehabilitation in 1989 with a focus on rehabilitation of brain and spinal cord injury.  When working with individuals in an outpatient setting the question was frequently asked, “When can I start driving?”

As an Occupational Therapist, Jenny has the education and experience to identify an individual’s functional skills or limitations secondary to a medical condition or aging process and the effects on driving performance.  Jenny is able to utilize adaptive methods or equipment to assist the individual in maintaining safe driving skills and appropriate licensure.

Jenny has presented at multiple conferences on the subject of Adaptive Drivers Assessment and Training including the Arizona Occupational Therapy Association in 2003 and 2004 and the American Stroke Association Stroke Survivor Conference 2002 and 2003.
