A Driver Evaluation is the preparatory phase for all other services within the field of driver rehabilitation. A driver evaluation includes a clinical assessment as well as an “on road” assessment. The clinical portion addresses medical and driving history, visual acuity and perception, cognitive skills, physical skills as well as goals for driving. The on road assessment is performed in an actual driving environment to assess ones abilities or potential to become an independent driver. Learn more with this driving assessment video.
Each state motor vehicle department has requirements for reporting certain medical conditions or diagnosis. You, your health care provider or family may be following these procedures with your referral for this evaluation. If you were to have a Motor Vehicle Accident without completing this process, there may be additional consequences.
Unfortunately, it is not common for insurance to cover a driving evaluation as they do not consider driving as “medically necessary.”
The cost of the evaulation may vary depending on your needs for equipment and/or where the evaluation is provided. We try hard to customize each service to your needs; please contact the office for an accurate estimate for your situation. If you are eligible for services from workman’s compensation insurance policy, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Veteran’s Administration or other agencies, funding may be available. For a list of possible funding providers, please visit our Resources page. For your convenience we accept cash, checks, money order and all major credit cards.
Evaluations will be done at one of our three locations. Please contact our office for your nearest location.
It is ideal to do the evaluations at our office as we have access to multiple vehicles and testing tools that are not easily transportable. We are most efficient at our office, it is most affordable for you and in some instances we are guided by state approved driving routes.
The on road assessments will be performed in a company evaluation vehicle. We have a few vehicle options depending on your physical needs, each have an automatic transmission and is equipped with dual brakes as required by the Motor Vehicle Department. Additional adaptive driving equipment will be utilized if required. Our vehicles are insured for driver training purposes.
Phoenix locals can call (480) 449-3331. Tucson, Albuquerque and Out of State clients can call our toll free number (855)449-3331.
Recommendations will be discussed regarding your driving based on the comprehensive evaluation. A written report will be provided within the following week and sent to your doctor, the Motor Vehicle Department and/or anyone else you provide written consent for us to send it to.
